The Thaba Tsoeu Small Farmers Association was formed in 1995 and has 22 associations. It was registered in 2008 and started with 375 members, 106 males and 269 females. It was formed for crop production to prevent hunger and empowerment of the poor. Crops was sold to other farmers or other members of the community. The association organises fund raising activities. A yearly subscription of 150 is contributed. Members are found in the following community councils: ‘Mamants’o, Ts’anatalana, Makoabating, Thaba-Phechela le Qibing in Mafeteng district.

This association was formed in 1983, through the advice of the Agricultural Extension Officer in the Dairy Sector. Membership covered a wide range of Berea District, including villages like Ha Senekane, Ha Koali, Ha ‘Mamathe and Teyeteyaneng Township. In 1989, the association got registered with the Law Office under the name of Berea Dairy Farmers Association. It started with 17 members, 12 males and 5 females. Milk production ranged between 50–100 litres per day due to shortage of dairy cows. The produce was sold to Lesotho Dairy Products (LDP). The association ploughed about 8 acres of lucern at Pukane Ha Koali to minimize forage costs.

Rua u phele association started operating in June 2013 with 8 members. In 2014 members increased to 14. In 2015-16, membership dropped down to 10. Members register with M20 and pay membership fee of M100 annually. The association in found at Ribaneng within the Lehlakaneng Communtity Council in the Mafeteng District.

It initiated its operations with the capacity of 60 members which drastically decreased to only 15 members. The association is located at the Maseru sub-district.

The Maphonkoane Seed Growers Association was formed in 2011, by 5 members, 3 women and 2 men.  The aim of the association is mainly seed multiplication and at the moment the multiplication is on bean seeds and our production was roughly 1440kgs annually when we first started.  To ensure sustainability of our association, members contribute amount of M100.00 as subscription annually and monthly contribution of M50.00. The association in found at Ribaneng in the Lehlakaneng Community Council in the Mafeteng district.

Manonyane Dairy Association was established and registered in May 2008. The association had 30 members. Members pay registration fee of M100.00 per member and annual subscription of M50.00. Now the association has 15 members and is able to produce 1000 litres per day in the year 2014/15. Milk is sold at M3.60 x 1000 litres = M3 600.00 and this was for Lesotho Dairy Products. The association is based at Roma, Maama in Manonyane Counsil Maseru.

Thusanang Mathula DFA Dairy Farmers Association

Thusanang Mathula DFA is a dairy farmers association situated in Matelile; Community Council of Ramoetsana EO4, in Mafeteng District, Lesotho. It was founded in 1993, with 63 members and aided by Germans up until 2001.  The association came to life again in 2009, with 43 members but is now left with 17 members because SADP divided the association members according to their respective resource centers. At the moment, the association membership has decreased to 11 members. The association is comprised of 10 men and 7 women. To become a member, one is required to pay registration fee of M10.00 while membership fee is M100.00 annually.

Currently, the membership stands at 205 with 155 females and 50 males. Membership fee for this association is at M200.00 annually. The umbrella association is located at Ribaneng and Masemouse areas in the Lehlakaneng community council in Mafeteng district.

Majantja Temong

Majantja Temong is an umbrella association established in 2003 with 13 affiliating associations. In 2011, a constitution was formed and was legally registered under the societies act. As an umbrella association, we currently have 15 associations with 207 members, of which 183 are women while 24 are men. And since 2011, we have organized fund raising activities and exhibitions for expanding the member associations. The association is located at Shalane Phamong in Mohale’s Hoek district within the Lithipeng community council. Our member are from 2 constituencies; Qaqathu and Ketane. To become a member of the association, a registration fee of M200.00 is required plus subscription of M20.00 per month.

MADAU is an umbrella association for independent farmers’ associations from Maseru district. It was founded in 2002 and registered lawfully on the 10th October 2008 with 7 independent associations as members.  The association has membership of 36 independent associations adding up to 1,009 members in total. The association has 412 males, of which 70 are youth and 432 women, of whom 95 are youth.

With assistance from the Maseru District Agricultural Office, MADAU is found in Masianokeng area with members from the following constituencies; Masianokeng, Morija, Rothe, Ramabanta, Ha Ntsi, Semonkong, Marakabei.

Mohokare Kopanang ka Lerato Association is an animal and crop production association Association was established on 2014/01/15. The association has 21 (8 males and 13 females) founding members. We have planted 50 acres of beans and harvested 570kg at establishment. Then the association was able to rear 150 broiler chickens. Again, the association reared 12 pigs. Members contribute M100.00 as subscription and the registration fee is M10.00 per member. The association is located at Mohokare Ha setho in the Lilala Community Council.
